Awakening the feminine, taming the masculine

Being powerful has been synonymous with a masculine form strength that defines powerful as an expression of domination, productivity, organisation, structure, success and efficiency.

This stems from an entrenched cultural tone within a very patriarchal system that organises social norms and customs through a conscious and unconscious bias towards preferences for masculine energy both explicitly in the form of men being in positions where they hold more power over women but also implicitly within men and women themselves, shy of expressing their true feminine energy in fear of being judged socially for being soft, stormy, emotional, weak, fiery and creative.

Operating in a dominant masculine is actually in conflict to how nature expresses itself which uses both masculine and feminine forces to thrive. It essentially puts a person in a state of disharmony.

Take a flower as an example. Planted as a seed in earth the flower uses masculine energy to root down creating an abundant and productive root system underneath  feeding the plant with all its essential nutrients.

The flower also needs the warmth and light to grow as well as the tender loving care of the insects and birds pollinating it and keeping it safe from nasty pests and diseases.

The harmony between the two results in an abundance of colourful flowers, a sight of beauty to everyone eyes.

This is the way nature works, a deep natural intelligence that harnesses healthy forms of masculine and feminine energy. Humans are part of nature, so we too are affected by its masculine (yang) and feminine (yin) energy.

Have you ever really stopped to think about this natural make up of your being?

Take some time this week to observe these energy play out during your day - don’t try and judge yourself as good or bad but curiously observe what energy seems be do your dominant expression and remember the only rule in this exploration is to know that the opposite expression will bring you balance.

Here are some helpful hints:

Taming your masculine

Masculine energy is in balance when you have healthy boundaries and structures in place.

You are assertive and discerning and speak up respectfully when you feel something is not right.

It keeps you accountable towards your goals in life and drives you towards your ambitions and desires with a sense of clarity, confidence and strength.

When it is out of balance, it can be erratic, disorganised, and flip you into states where you find it hard to focus, set boundaries, and manage your time.

With this comes lack of self esteem, breaking of confidence - a sense of losing hope in your life purpose.

This normally expresses its self in behaviours like being over analytical, constantly in your head, angry, resentful, distrusting, controlling, dominating and violent to one’s self and others.

When this appears to be a dominant expression of your day to day existence, it needs taming with more feminine energy.

Awakening your feminine

Most of us need to be doing this more; however there is such a state of imbalance in feminine energy.

Let’s focus on what a balanced form looks like first.

Feminine energy is in balance when you are calmly and clearly in a flow - there is a strong sense of presence in each moment of your day and everything you are organising just seems to fall in place in a easy and gentle way.

You are able to hold space to listen and observe and speak from a place of love and authenticity. It helps tame your ambitions and desires, reminding you to express moments of rest, nourishment and play in your life.

With this comes a sense of creativity and flow, and everything your masculine energy is planning gently falls into place without too much drama.

Awakening this energy comes with more moments of stillness and silence in the day, finding moments to go for a walk, do a yoga class, some breathing or a slow dance. Meditation, self massage, warm baths, soothing teas are all really helpful activities to awaken feminine energy.

When it is out of balance it can cause inertia in your life and a sense of stagnation and heaviness - a sense of not being bothered to do anything.

This can express itself with lack of drive, motivation, and overall sense of losing hope in your life purpose.

Here we land exactly in the same spot as too much masculine energy - what do we do? Awaken your masculine.
