The Birth of Bodhi

Here is Zoe's story...

I started feeling contractions around 2.30pm and of course called you for reassurance and support. My mother was home to help take care of Arlo and provide me with loving support.

I spent most of the time relaxing on a ball near the open fireplace, with relaxing music and aromatherapy. There was lots of loving touch and support until around midnight when we decided we needed to leave home for hospital.

I found myself on a beautiful position with my birth ball, warm shower on my back and my hypnobirthing tracks on repeat. I did this for 6 hours uninterrupted mostly. Then afterwards the surges became deeper into transitioning, and I moved from the ball onto all fours.

Unfortunately, Bodhi was stuck behind his membranes and after a fair amount of bearing down I was given the option to have them ruptured to get his birthing underway. There were a few things I wondered whether I choose right, yet all in all it was a short, drug free and empowered birth.

It was bloody intense and there moments were I really felt like I was going to become taken over by the intensity of it all when it all became too much. I had a bit of gas right at the end for the final bearing down. No episiotomies yet a mild tear.

The midwives were amazing, and the doctor was very supportive of all our birth preferences and informed consent was given the whole way.
